Between now and the end of July comet NEOWISE, one of the brightest comets in recent years will be getting steadily higher in the Northwestern evening sky.  For tips on viewing and seeing some nice photographs taken from people around the world, check out https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/comet-neowise-dazzles-at-dusk/ and related information on the Sky and Telescope website.

If we get clear evening skies and you have a clear view to the NW or can go somewhere with a clear view, you should have a nice view.  Telescopes not required, but binoculars can improve your view.

    Enjoy!

    Dear Neighbors,

I'm sorry to bother those of you to whom this does not apply.

To the woman in the neighborhood who took the signs out of my front yard at the corner of Sumner and Brookeway Drive, please bring them back.  I don't know your name, but I have your image on my Ring camera.  If you bring the signs back and leave them in the yard, that will be the end of it.  If not, I am going to treat this as theft.

I am saddened that you took signs encouraging people to practice good public health at a time when so many people are dying from this horrific disease.  Please bring them back so that we can move on.

    Hi,

According to Fed Ex, a package was delivered to my house last Sat 2/29 and left by the garage (doubt it, as it is in the back of my house) Did anyone receive this package?

    Thanks,

Some years ago the county installed several circles in Sumner to “calm” traffic. While the roads and the circles belong to Montgomery County, the Summer Citizens Association (SCA) is responsible for the circles. The brick edging of the first circles was in bad shape. The bricks had been broken up by trucks driving over them. The circles installed at the end of the original project had concrete borders and seem to have suffered little or no damage.

The SCA got the appropriate county employee to come out and assess the situation and then Phil Wilcox of Sumner's Traffic Committee stayed on the case. The result: this week county crews have been installing concrete borders on the circles where they were lacking. This should help to keep the circles in good order.

Hope you have noticed the Spring cleaning of the circles and addition of colorful pansies. This is made possible by dues paid to the SCA.

Screenshot_2018-10-08 How do you connect with your community .png

Have you heard? There’s a NEW way to get solar energy without installing anything at all! No wires, no panels, no hassle! Plus, it’s one of the least expensive clean energy options out there and there are no upfront fees! I’m thrilled I signed up with Neighborhood Sun to bring innovative green energy to my home, and wanted to spread the news to you.

How does it work? All you have to do is subscribe to solar through Neighborhood Sun! Your electric utility offsets your bill with “solar credits” for the amount of electricity that is produced by your solar share. Your utility company will still be delivering your electricity, but now you can say that you get clean, renewable energy at a discount!

If you’re interested in learning more, reach out to Neighborhood Sun at 240-284-6245. Have questions? You can also schedule a call with Neighborhood Sun staff at your convenience.

We also crafted this new infographic for explaining community solar that you are more than welcome to attach in your email to friends and family. If there are more materials you'd like to use that will help you spread the word, feel free to reach out to us at hello@neighborhoodsun.solar.

For the Upcoming Annual Meeting please find below:

    • Slate for election as directors:   At the annual meeting, the following slate will be proposed to serve as directors of the Sumner Citizens Association:   Rich Landfield, Endre Esztergomi, Donna Collins, Marsha Barnes, Helen Berns, Nancy Klothe, Owen Kirby, Nora Denbo, Susanna Gebhard, and Asher Lipman.  You will note that the number of candidates proposed is 10 while the bylaws proposed for adoption provide for a board of directors of nine directors.  This discrepancy comes about because after the notice was sent out about the annual meeting (with the proposed bylaws), an additional person indicated interest in serving on the board.  Accordingly, because SCA's board has traditionally been 10 persons, we will propose at the meeting that the bylaws be adopted with a change from nine directors to 10 directors.  board recommendations re articles and bylaws.docx

    • For approval of an Amended and Restated Articles of Incorporation.  The Articles of Incorporation were adopted in 1969 and should be updated.  A draft for approval: Articles Of Amendment And Restatement proposed for adoption.docx
    • For approval of Amended and Restated Bylaws.  The current Bylaws need to be brought current with existing Maryland law governing non-profit corporations.  A draft for approval: Bylaws - SCA - proposed for adoption.docx
